India’s 22-year-old opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal has taken the entire cricketing fraternity by storm with his clean technique and splendid ability to score runs for the team in crucial situations. He is already turning out to be a big match player but the only aim he has on his mind is to keep the needs of the team before his desires, Jaiswal revealed during an exclusive chat with Jio Cinema after he scored a half-century on day 2 of the 4th Test in Ranchi.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has created several records at this young age already and was just introduced to the international circuit last year in July. On the back of a tremendous IPL 2023 season with the Rajasthan Royals, Jaiswal was first called up for India’s WTC 2023 final against Australia before he made his Test debut as an opener during the tour of West Indies which followed right after.

“Trying to learn how to play on different wickets”, Jaiswal on his current objective

On his debut Test innings at Roseau, Jaiswal surprised everyone with a fantastic 175 knock in the 1st Test against West Indies before scoring 57 and 38 in the 2nd Test. After a gap of almost 5 months in which he saw the Indian ODI team lose the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Jaiswal was picked to open alongside Rohit Sharma in a tricky tour of South Africa.

Over there, it was Yashasvi Jaiswal’s first real assessment of how he plays in such conditions but much like most of his seniors in the team, the youngster faltered in those confusing as well as challenging conditions. He had scores of 17, 5 0, and 8 across 4 innings at Centurion and Cape Town as the Indians headed back home with a 1-1 series draw.

Up next was England’s tour of India for a 5-match Test series in which Jaiswal was supposed to play his debut Test series on home soil. The 22-year-old has been a major revelation in this series, scoring 618 runs from 7 innings at Hyderabad, Vizag, Rajkot, and Ranchi including two half-centuries, two double centuries, and 3 scores of less than 20 runs.

Yesterday, after he departed for 73 during India’s 1st inning with the bat, Yashasvi Jaiswal took time out and spoke to Jio Cinema about his future objectives.

“It’s been nice and challenging as well. I’ve been trying to learn how to play on different wickets and make sure that I stay for a long time. It’s been one year with the Indian team, have had a lot of talk with Rahul sir and Rohit bhai on how to change my mindset, I’m trying to keep in mind what my team needs.” – Jaiswal said via Jio Cinema.

“I want to play according to the situation, I’m preparing the same during the net sessions, speaking with the seniors.” – Jaiswal concluded.

Records set by Yashasvi Jaiswal in this series

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been piling up runs for fun in the ongoing Anthony De Mello trophy between India and England. With that, he has also set up several records like – being the 7th player overall to have scored 600+ runs in a Test series before turning 23. He has also named the record for most sixes in a calendar year previously held by Virender Sehwag.

Jaiswal also has the 2nd most number of double centuries in a single series and he also holds the record for most sixes in a single innings – 12 sixes during the 3rd innings of the 3rd Test in Rajkot.
