After the exciting first Test in Hyderabad, which the visitors won, India and England locked horns with each other in the second match of the five-match series on Friday (2nd February). The match between the two teams is underway at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
The coin toss went in favor of the Indian team and they opted to bat first. Openers Rohit Sharma (14) and Yashasvi Jaiswal provided India with a decent start. They respected the good balls and were quite watchful as England bowlers James Anderson and Joe Root bowled pretty well with the new ball.
The duo added 41 runs for the opening partnership before skipper Rohit Sharma fell to debutant Shoaib Bashir in the 18th over. Under fire, Shubman Gill walked out to bat for India at No.3 and played some crisp shots in his innings. He along with Yashasvi Jaiswal added 49 runs for the second partnership.
Gill looked solid at the crease but James Anderson had better of him and sent him packing for 34 runs on the stroke of Lunch. Shreyas Iyer had the same story as that of Gill as after having a solid start he couldn’t carry on and perished at the crucial juncture of the game.
Iyer and Jaiswal made sure that they made up for the loss of two quick wickets. They put England under pressure with their 90-run partnership before the former was back in the hut for 27 runs. After that debutant Rajat Patidar walked into bat at No.5 for the team and played a vital hand for the team in the middle order, making sure India goes past 250 runs.
Rajat Patidar impressed many with his innings and along with Jaiswal put the team out of trouble after the wicket of Shreyas Iyer. The debutant was looking set for a big knock before he bagged an unfortunate dismissal. He was back in the hut for 32 runs off 72 balls.

The hero for India was none other than young Yashasvi Jaiswal. The opening batter played one of the best knocks of his career and made sure that he put his team in a solid position. Despite wickets falling on the other end, he held the fort for the team and made sure he stayed there till the end.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored a blistering 80 runs in the first innings in Hyderabad, made sure he goes one step ahead and slams a century. The opening batter, however, didn’t stop there as his hunger for runs continued and he went on to his 150, the second in his short career so far.
Yashasvi Jaiswal didn’t put a foot wrong in his innings as he made sure that he respected good balls along with hitting bad balls for boundaries and sixes. He along with Axar Patel made sure that India didn’t lose further wickets for some time in the game. But it couldn’t happen as the all-rounder was back in the hut late in the day.
Axar Patel scored 27 runs and KS Bharat followed him too and perished for 17 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal on the other end remained unbeaten at 179 runs off 257 balls with 17 fours and five sixes to his name. India ended Day 1 with a total of 336/6 runs on the board.
