Former India opener Aakash Chopra reckons India should give one more chance to KS Bharat in the third Test against England which will be played at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.

KS Bharat has not given any notable performance with the bat and he averages 20.09 after seven Test matches and has not scored a single half-century in the longest format.

Aakash Chopra wants KS Bharat to keep in all five Test matches in this series as he is impressed with his keeping skills. However, he still feels that if batting is so important for the team management even then Bharat deserves one more match.

KS Bharat made his Test debut against Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy last year and since then he has played seven Test matches and has failed miserably with the bat.

Aakash Chopra opined in a video shared on his YouTube channel, that replacing KS Bharat with Dhruv Jurel would be premature at this stage. “It’s been heard that Dhruv Jurel will be handed his debut cap. I am thinking whether it’s right or wrong. Only two Tests have happened. I want him (Bharat) to keep in all five, but if you still need batting that much, Bharat deserves to be given at least one more match,” he said.
The cricketer-turned-commentator noted that KS Bharat was good behind the wickets, which is his primary job. “I would say Srikar Bharat should firstly be judged on his keeping and I feel he is keeping decently. The pitches are difficult and that’s why you weren’t getting KL Rahul to keep. You said you wanted a specialist keeper. So he is doing his job fully as a specialist keeper,” Chopra stated.

Aakash Chopra Also Feels KS Bharat Was Good With The Bat In The First Test

KS Bharat scored 41 and 28 in the first Test against England which was played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. Aakash Chopra Reckons It was a decent performance from the wicketkeeper and it will be disappointing for him if Bharat is dropped in the third Test.

“He also batted decently in both innings in Hyderabad. If he had played a little longer in the second innings, India might have even won the match. So I will be a little disappointed (if he is dropped),” he said.

According to Aakash Chopra, the presence of spin-bowling all-rounders like Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel allows India to play KS Bharat as a specialist wicketkeeper.

“I feel KS Bharat should play because you are playing a keeper as a keeper. Your three spinners are already batters, if Jaddu (Ravindra Jadeja) plays, or else two are proper batters. Axar (Patel) does proper batting and (Ravichandran) Ashwin also does proper batting,” Chopra explained.

KS Bharat has a great record in domestic cricket and was selected for this Test series after he scored a terrific century against the England Lions. If India is expecting runs from him then he should be coming to bat up in the order according to Chopra. He has not performed for India with the bats but he has contributed his bit with his wicketkeeping which is very technically sound.

India and England will face each other in the third Test of the five-match series at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot starting on February 15, Thursday.

The series is currently leveled 1-1 as the hosts lost the first Test against England in Hyderabad by 28 runs and then made a sensational comeback in Vizag winning the second Test by 106 runs. India has never lost a Test series at home since 2012 when England defeated them 2-1 and they would like to maintain their decade-long unbeaten run at home.
