High-flying Team India will be aiming to wrap up the five-match Test series against England by winning the ongoing fourth Test in Ranchi. With two thumping wins in the last two Tests, the momentum is with Team India and they will be looking to make the most of it.

However, the hosts will have to do it without their star bowler Jasprit Bumrah. The right-arm pacer has been India’s standout performer with the ball in the series so far. He is currently the leading wicket-taker in the series. In three games, he has picked up 17 wickets including nine wickets in the second Test that saw him walk away with the Player of the Match award.

Why is Jasprit Bumrah not playing the fourth Test?

Jasprit Bumrah was captain Rohit Sharma’s go-to man in the first three Tests and did his job brilliantly, rarely failing to give the team crucial breakthroughs. The India captain will now have to rely on other bowlers to get the job done. Missing Jasprit Bumrah will be a huge blow for the home side and they will be hoping that the absence does not cost them big.

The reason behind the pacer’s absence from the Test is that he has been rested for the game as a part of his workload management. The right-arm pacer bowled 80.5 overs in the first three Tests. With a busy period ahead where he will play the IPL before leading India’s attack in the T20 World Cup, the team management decided to give him a much-needed break.

“Jasprit Bumrah has been released from the squad for the 4th IDFC First Bank Test against England in Ranchi. The decision was taken keeping in mind the duration of the series and amount of cricket he has played in recent times,” the BCCI stated in a release.

Meanwhile, Bengal pacer Akash Deep has replaced Bumrah in the playing eleven for the fourth Test. The right-arm pacer is making his debut in the Test. India have made only one change to their playing eleven for the Ranchi Test.
