While commentating in the India Vs England 4th of a 5-match Test series here at the JSCA stadium in Ranchi, England’s former legendary off-spinner Graeme Swann made respectful remarks after seeing Indian captain Rohit Sharma advising his opening pair Yashasvi Jaiswal on how to defense the ball down in what is the latter’s first time playing in a crack-filled pitch like this one, during the closing over of day 3.

Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal had to immediately pad up after England dramatically crashed out for just 145 runs in their 2nd innings with the bat after posting 353 in the 1st innings through an effortful centurion knock from the bat of Joe Root.

“Talking to his son”, Swann opines on Rohit and Jaiswal’s rapport

Graeme Swann felt as if he was seeing a conversation between a father and son when Rohit was asking Yashasvi Jaiswal to make some adjustments with his bat swing. Swann who was a key part of the English team that, to this day, stands as the last foreign team to register a red-ball series win on Indian soil, was amazed to watch that moment unfold.

“Rohit Sharma was like a father talking to his son Yashasvi Jaiswal and guiding him to defend the last few balls of the day. It was amazing to watch.” – Swann said via Jio Cinema.

Rohit Sharma scores fifty as India approach towards another comprehensive victory

Meanwhile, shifting our focus to day 4 of the 4th Test in Ranchi, the Indians after scoring 40 from their 192-run target, are closing in on yet another comprehensive victory that will be confirmed by the end of 2nd session if the visitors do not stage a comeback.

Rohit Sharma who scored a brilliant century in the 3rd Test, has departed after a half-century while Yashavi Jaiswal went off after amassing 37 runs through a brilliant catching effort from James Anderson.

But the fact that England finds themselves in a do-or-die situation today, is only because of their own mistakes.

If the English batters looked superior over the Indian bowling attack in the first morning as well as the second, it was the total opposite during their 2nd innings on day 3. Having been frustrated by a solid performance from the Indian lower batting order in which Dhruv Jurel played an emphatic 90-run knock and dragged the Indians from 177/7 to 307 all out, the supposed pressure was all over the heads of English batters which saw them leave a target of only 192.

There were no individual brilliance from the batters and those who even got a head start, were reduced to ashes by Kuldeep Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin who shared 9 wickets between them while man of the match from 3rd Test Ravindra Jadeja accounted for a single wicket.

Rohit Sharma who chose to just throw his wicket away moments ago, made a decent comeback in terms of captaincy after looking totally out of place in the 1st innings. But he will be gutted by the way he stepped out in front of Tom Hartley and got stumped by Ben Foakes.
