Middle-order batsman Sarfaraz Khan was all of us when he was asking England tailender Shoaib Bashir to finish off quickly so that they can enjoy the snow in the Himalayan foothills after the match at HPCA stadium. Sarfaraz said that during the 38th over of the 3rd innings bowled by Kuldeep Yadav at the picturesque venue in Dharamshala.

England off-spinner Shoaib Bashir who had registered a 5-wicket haul in the 2nd innings, had just come on to bat after the fall of the 8th wicket. He came to bat alongside Joe Root who scored his second fifty+ score of the series and that was when Sarfaraz Khan started his chatter at short-leg, right beside Bashir.

Watch Sarfaraz Khan’s hilarious ask of Bashir

There wasn’t much for Shoaib Bashir to do at that time as England’s loss by an innings was inevitably getting closer. The 20-year-old was just defending the ball down and had also slogged one for a six off Kuldeep Yadav right before Sarfaraz Khan asked him to get out quickly.

Sarfaraz was in a mood to have fun in the middle as he knew victory would be ensured anytime. Thus, after Bashir guarded a low dipping delivery from Kuldeep, the Mumbaikar said, “Khatam kar jaldi, snow hai upar ghum ayenge” (Finish the game quickly by getting out so that we can go and watch the snow-covered mountains).

Sarfaraz Khan’s uncanny sledding only triggered a laugh from Bashir who knows a little bit of Hindi, something he revealed while batting in the 4th Test at Ranchi. It was the same Sarfaraz who was standing at short-leg and was caught in the stump mic saying, “Isko Hindi bhi nahi aati hai badhiya chalo” (He doesn’t even know Hindi, come on guys).

In response, Bashir confirmed that he indeed knows a little bit of Hindi when he said, “Thodi thode aati hain Hindi”. The connection between Sarfaraz and Bashir was just so special to watch as two youngsters who have just started their international career, have so much of mutual respect for one another.

One more incident that took place between them yesterday was when Bashir pulled one of Kuldeep’s delivery right into the helmet of Sarfaraz Khan. The 26-year-old was in fact warned by captain Rohit Sharma in the 4th Test match to wait for his helmet and that he shouldn’t be acting like a hero at short-leg.

Sarfaraz earns Grade C central contract along with Dhruv Jurel

Meanwhile, Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel after playing the 5th Test match at Dharamshala, automatically earned themselves a Grade C central contract from the BCCI. It was revealed in BCCI’s player retainership press release a few weeks ago that if Sarfaraz and Jurel feature in the 5th Test (their 3rd) then they will be included in the Grade C category.

“Athletes who meet the criteria of playing a minimum of 3 Tests or 8 ODIs or 10 T20Is within the specified period will automatically be included in Grade C on a pro-rata basis. For instance, Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan, having played 2 Test matches so far, will be inducted into Grade C if they participate in the Dharamsala Test Match, i.e., the 5th Test of the ongoing series against England.” – BCCI’s press release read.
