Ravichandran Ashwin received a heartfelt and emotional standing ovation from his 2 daughters and wife Prithi Ashwin after claiming another 5-wicket haul in the Test series against England.

This one would feel even more special as Ashwin is playing his 100th Test match at the picturesque HPCA stadium in Dharamshala. The off-spinner’s performance in this match has put India in the driver’s seat as they look to close the series with a score line of 4-1. With that wicket, Ravichandran Ashwin has now registered 9 wickets in the 5th Test and is just 1 away from completing his 9th 10-wicket haul in Test cricket.

Watch Ravichandran Ashwin’s splendid off break delivery to get Ben Foakes out

The delivery that ensured Ravichandran Ashwin’s five-for in the 3rd innings was an orthodox off-break delivery which the England wicket-keeper batsman Ben Foakes failed to read. Foakes tried to slog sweep the inside turning ball, missed the entire line, had no clue whatsoever before the stumps lit up.

After Foakes’ dismissal, England lost another 2 wickets in a quick space of time and the visitors are now inching closer towards another Test match loss, this time by an innings. Ben Stokes’ side were supposed to give the target to India but turns out they are unable to even put the trail off.

Number 4 batter Joe Root who scored a century in the previous Test match at Ranchi, is currently at the crease along with Shoaib Bashir. Root has completed his fifty and only a fairytale can see him continue to carry England on his shoulders and hopefully put the trail off and provide a fighting target.

But that seems highly impossible at the moment as the Indian bowlers led by Jasprit Bumrah are relentlessly grinding out to get the final 2 wickets. India’s only wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav has picked up only 1 wicket in the 3rd innings after a 1st innings which saw him register a much awaited five-for.

Ravichandran Ashwin to finish the series as highest wicket-taker

With his 5-wicket haul, Ravichandran Ashwin is now all set to finish the Anthony De Mello Trophy series as the highest wicket-taker. The prospect of Tom Hartley returning again in the Test match looks bleak and Ashwin now has 26 scalps to his name in the series, 4 more than the English left-arm off spinner.

Many would also argue about him becoming the player of the series for his exceptional bowling performances but we all know which Indian player is going to get it. Without any doubts, its going to be Yashasvi Jaiswal who had a fantastic debut home Test series against the Bazballing England team.

Jaiswal particularly enjoyed himself in this series because he had a tough one in South Africa. The youngster failed to get going in those tough conditions but he has showed the signs of all the things to come from his performance in the series. 712 runs at an average of 87 from 9 innings including 2 double centuries, that’s some way to announce yourself in first ever home Test series.
