Former India National Cricket Team opening batsman Aakash Chopra has showered rich praise on the 22-year-old left-handed opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal for his stupendous batting performance in the first innings of the second Test against England National Cricket Team.
England are currently leading the five-match Test series against India National Cricket Team by 1-0 and the second Test match is underway at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam.
After a disappointing loss in the first Test, India National Cricket Team maintained a good position in the second Test match. At stumps on Day 1, they were at 336/6 in 93 overs with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravichandran Ashwin unbeaten in the middle.
The sole reason behind India having a big score on Day 1 is the batting performance of Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is still quite new to the international cricket arena.
Yashasvi Jaiswal didn’t get much support from his teammates as most of the Indian batters got starts but failed to convert it into a big score. Jaiswal didn’t throw away his wicket like his teammates and slammed an outstanding century. He scored 179 runs off 257 balls, with 17 fours and 5 sixes.
Speaking after the end of the play on the first day, Yashasvi Jaiswal also mentioned that the head coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma had told him to continue batting till the end of the first innings and hit his maiden double century in the purest format of cricket.
Yashasvi Jaiswal earned praise from the entire cricketing fraternity for his marvelous century on Day 1 and Aakash Chopra was among the former cricketers who were highly impressed with the youngster.
The most fantastic performance came from Yashasvi Jaiswal’s bat – Aakash Chopra
After the play on Day 1, Aakash Chopra shared a review video on his official YouTube channel where he spoke about various topics with one of them being the performance of Jaiswal. Chopra was particularly impressed with Jaiswal’s ability to convert his starts into big scores and highlighted that the youngster is even above the legendary Sir Don Bradman when it comes to conversion rate. He elaborated:
“The most fantastic performance came from Yashasvi Jaiswal’s bat. How well the kid batted. Jimmy Anderson was the only pacer and he kept leaving his deliveries. He gave a lot of respect to James Anderson’s bowling.
“When spin came, he hit two fours in the first over. After that, he showed why this player is so special. His conversion rate of fifties into hundreds for players who have 10 or more centuries in first-class cricket, he is even above Sir Don Bradman at this point in time.”
Aakash Chopra further compared Jaiswal’s performance with the rest of the India batters and heaped praise on him for playing according to the situation.
“Yashasvi is living up to his name. He shows every time that he is absolutely stellar. He is standing alone on 179 because the second-highest is not even 40. So Yashasvi Jaiswal on one side and the rest of the Indian team on the other.
“He showed how you need to play spin on a surface that is playing like a true Indian surface. It is not a bad pitch, there isn’t too much help for spin, on Day 1 of course. He smothered the full deliveries and hit them hard. He didn’t have any hesitation to hit in the air and reached his century with a six.”
Notably, Yashasvi Jaiswal has a conversion rate of 73.33% which is the best among the batters who have hit a minimum of 10 centuries in first-class cricket.
