Suryakumar Yadav’s selection as India’s vice-captain for the upcoming series against the West Indies is an excellent choice. Yadav, as Aakash Chopra correctly points out, deserves this award for his outstanding efforts. Yadav has demonstrated tremendous talent and consistency in both Indian cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he has been a valuable addition to his side on a consistent basis.

The Men in Blue will meet the Windies in five T20Is, the first of which will be played on August 3 in Tarouba. On Wednesday (July 5), the selectors picked a 15-man Indian squad for the series, with Hardik Pandya as captain and Suryakumar as his deputy.

Since his debut in 2021, Yadav has consistently been a member of Team India in the 20-over format. He quickly established himself as a dependable batter with the ability to play unconventional shots and finish for the Indian squad. In 48 T20I games, the 32-year-old has a 45+ average, 300 hits, and a strike rate above 175 runs per over. Since the Indian Premier League (IPL) is largely responsible for Suryakumar’s success in the 20-over format, his IPL 2023 performance will also be taken into consideration for this new position.

“He has been a late bloomer slightly”- Aakash Chopra

In the video, Aakash Chopra stated his support for Suryakumar Yadav to be named Indian cricket team vice-captain. Chopra emphasized Yadav’s remarkable skills and performances, notably his recent Indian Premier League (IPL) games in which he demonstrated his ability to handle pressure and provide consistent results.

“The Indian team has been selected for the T20I series against West Indies. Hardik Pandya is the captain and Suryakumar Yadav is the vice-captain. Giving him the vice-captaincy is right because of the way he has performed” Aakash Chopra said.

“It’s not just the seniority in the side but if you see otherwise as well, he had come with a lot of cricketing experience. He has been a late bloomer slightly but vice-captain, I think a very good choice” Aakash Chopra added.

“Hardik Pandya will lead the Indian T20 team for times to come”- Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra, a former India opener, believes that Hardik Pandya’s decision to remain as India’s T20I captain for the next West Indies tour indicates that the star all-rounder will likely continue to serve in that role till the T20 World Cup in the West Indies takes place next year.

“Hardik Pandya, who had been given the captaincy after the T20 World Cup – it seems like that’s now a final fixture, that Hardik Pandya will lead the Indian T20 team for times to come, which means until the upcoming World Cup,” Aakash Chopra said.

The West Indies and India will play a five-match Twenty20 International series commencing August 3 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad Following two Tests and three ODIs.
