Yashasvi Jaiswal has expressed his delight over playing alongside his senior India teammate Virat Kohli. The young opening batsman is a part of India’s Test squad for the ongoing series against West Indies.

While he was with the team for the World Test Championship final last month as a backup opener, he earned his maiden call-up for the ongoing series.

And in the very first Test, Yashasvi Jaiswal was given the opportunity to debut in Tests and he grabbed it with both hands. The left-handed batsman smashed 171 runs and was adjudged the Man of the Match.

Yashasvi Jaiswal did well in the ongoing second game too although he missed the chance to score another century. He scored 57 runs and shared another century-plus stand with skipper Rohit Sharma who was dismissed for 80.

Speaking at the end of the day’s play, Yashasvi Jaiswal expressed his delight over sharing the dressing room with Virat Kohli. The youngster hailed the former India skipper as a legend and said that he is blessed to play with him. Yashasvi Jaiswal also stated that he tries to learn a lot from his senior teammate.

“It is amazing to see him bat. What can I say? He is a legend. I am blessed to play with him. There’s a lot of things to learn from him be it cricket or outside of it. I try to pick his mind,” Yashasvi Jaiswal told reporters.

“Everyone has there own way to explaining things. They all have experience. I listen to all of their advice very carefully. When they are talking there are few thoughts behind it. Getting information, small small other stuffs, it’s just incredible,” he said when speaking about having the likes of Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid, and Rohit Sharma as mentors.

Yashasvi Jaiswal also expressed his disappointment over not converting his good start into a big score. Soon after he crossed the 50-run mark, West Indies allrounder Jason Holder sent him back.

“Of course, I am disappointed. It happens in cricket. I just need to keep learning and keep thinking that how I can do better when I come to bat next,” he said.

“I feel whenever I bat I try to make sure that how long I can bat and of course, there is disappointment when I get out. I need to just keep learning. I always want to do well for the team. I go out there with the same mindset. It is a pleasure to go out there and play for your country,” he added.

India finished day one on 288 for 4 with Virat Kohli leading the charge with the bat after Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma’s departure. The batting star was unbeaten on 87 while Ravindra Jadeja was giving him company on 36 at stumps.
