IND vs BAN: Bangladesh Squad For 1st Test vs India Announced, Mushfiqur Rahim, Taskin Ahmed Included

On Thursday, December 8, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the squad for the first match of the two-match Test series against the India National Cricket Team.

The first Test match of the series will be played at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram from December 14 to 18 and the second Test will be played from December 22 to 26 at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

Meanwhile, star pacer Taskin Ahmed, veteran wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim and Yasir Ali have returned to the squad for the first Test against India while left-handed batsman Zakir Hasan has got a maiden call-up.

The veteran wicketkeeper-batter was not a part of Bangladesh’s squad for their last Test series against West Indies. Mushfiqur had skipped the series to perform Hajj, while Yasir Ali and star pacer Taskin were injured.

Meanwhile, Zakir Hasan has got a maiden call-up after performing brilliantly in recent times. He recently smashed 173 runs for Bangladesh A in the match against India A to help his side draw the game. He also finished as the leading run-scorer in this season’s National Cricket League with 442 runs in his bag at an average of 56.25.

BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin said that Zakir Hasan has been on their radar for the last five years and he is finally ready to represent Bangladesh at the highest level.

“Zakir has been on our radar for the last five years,” Bangladesh’s chief selector Minhajul Abedin said.

“He was in the High Performance unit for four of those years, and this season he was the highest scorer in first-class cricket. He played a good knock against India A last week. It saved the game. Selector Abdur Razzak, with the Bangladesh A side, witnessed the game and it seems Zakir is prepared for the highest level.”

Talking about notable exclusions, Tamim Iqbal, Mosaddek Hossain and Mustafizur Rahman have not been included in the squad for the first Test against India.
