“I thought he showed a great technique, a lot of patience and the temperament also. I think a week back, he got 173 against India A attack, which got him into the Test side I believe, where he also batted in the 4th day through that India A game. Similarly, batted beautifully today against a quality attack, on Day 4 pitch wasn’t easy, very very impressive.”
The 24-year-old left-handed batter recently scored sensational 173 runs in the first unofficial Test against India A to help Bangladesh A draw the game.
Good to watch him bat under that much pressure – Wasim Jaffer
The Punjab Kings (PBKS) batting coach also lauded Zakir for batting under pressure against the quality Indian attack. Jaffer said:
“Good to watch him bat under that much pressure because obviously, they knew that winning the Test match wasn’t their first thought, it’s about batting time, it’s about taking as much as possible, I thought he showed great temperament.”
The Bangladesh opening duo – Najmul Hossain Shanto and Zakir Hasan – added 124 runs in 277 balls before Umesh Yadav broke the partnership by dismissing Najmul Hossain Shanto in the 4th innings.
This was Bangladesh’s first hundred-run opening partnership against India in Test cricket and overall the second-best 4th innings opening stand.
