Twitter Hails “Mightily Impressive” Debutant Zakir Hasan As He Hits Sensational Ton In 4th Innings Of IND vs BAN 1st Test

The 24-year-old left-handed batter Zakir Hasan, who made his Test debut for the Bangladesh National Cricket Team in the first Test of the two-match series against India National Cricket Team, scored his maiden Test century in the 4th innings of the match on Saturday, December 17.

The first Test between the KL Rahul-led side and the Shakib Al Hasan-led side is currently underway at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

In Bangladesh’s first innings of the match, Zakir Hasan was able to contribute only 20 runs off 45 balls, before being dismissed by pacer Mohammed Siraj and Bangladesh were bundled out for 150.

Indian batters shined in the match and posted a humongous target of 513 for Bangladesh. Chasing the target in the 4th innings, young openers Najmul Hossain Shanto and Zakir Hasan batted brilliantly and had a remarkable century partnership.

The young opening duo added 124 runs in 277 balls before Umesh Yadav broke the partnership by dismissing Najmul Hossain Shanto. This was Bangladesh’s first hundred-run opening partnership against India in Test cricket and overall the second-best 4th innings opening stand.

After losing his partner, Zakir Hasan, who looked comfortable in the middle for the most part of his innings, kept batting brilliantly and completed his maiden Test century off 219 balls. In the 79th over of the innings, veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin picked his first wicket of the match by dismissing Zakir Hasan at the score of 100.

Meanwhile, the 24-year-old debutant has become the fourth Bangladesh National Cricket Team batter to smash a Test century on debut after Aminul Islam, Mohammad Ashraful and Abul Hasan. He is just the first Bangladesh opener to score a hundred on debut in Test cricket.

The youngster had earned his Test call-up after his consistent performance in the domestic circuit. He recently finished as the leading run-getter in the National Cricket League, where he smashed 442 runs at an average of 55.25 for Sylhet Division. Also, he recently scored sensational 173 runs in the first unofficial Test against India A to help Bangladesh A draw the game.
