Veteran India National Cricket Team batter Cheteshwar Pujara has revealed that everyone in the Indian dressing room got nervous after the dismissal of the young wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant on Day 4 of the second Test against Bangladesh National Cricket Team.

India National Cricket Team defeated Bangladesh National Cricket Team by 3 wickets in the second Test at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur to register a 2-0 whitewash over the hosts.

While chasing a small 145-run target on the spin-friendly surface, India were reduced to 71/6 after the dismissal of Pant, who scored a sensational 93 in the first innings. However, Shreyas Iyer and Ravichandran Ashwin joined forces and added 71* runs together to lead India to victory.

During a post-match interview with Sony Sports, Cheteshwar Pujara was asked about the dressing room atmosphere after the dismissal of the young wicketkeeper-batter. He replied:

“It was a very tense situation considering the wicket because there was a lot of help for the spinners. So everyone was quite tense but we knew that both Ashwin and Shreyas are very good batters.

“The way Ashwin contributed and Shreyas has in any case been batting very well in this series, so we were confident but yes, it was a nervous moment when Rishabh got out because there was slight pressure on the team.”

Pujara further showered praise on the duo of Ashwin and Iyer, saying that they didn’t panic and handled the situation very well.

He said: “The match could have gone anywhere. So the credit goes to Shreyas and Ashwin for the way they batted. They didn’t panic and the way they handled the situation, it was very important for us.

“We also knew that it is slightly difficult to bat in the first 30 or 40 overs with the Kookaburra ball, when the ball is hard, but it will get easier to bat as the ball keeps on getting softer.”
