There is no disputing that KL Rahul possesses the talent and skills necessary to become one of the greatest players of today, but the batter’s recent outings have drawn harsh criticism from all sides. However, Rahul appeared to have recovered after reaching 73 against Bangladesh in the first ODI.

Andy Flower, the coach of the Lucknow Super Giants, has backed Rahul, saying that his track record speaks for itself and that he has consistently met his teams’ expectations.

When asked about his recent performances, Flower stated: “He has proved time and time again that he is able to deliver. He is an amazing cricketer and so beautiful to watch but also he has got an amazing record, especially in the IPL, and a ridiculously good average. I rate him very highly.”

Flower, one of cricket’s most astute thinkers, emphasizes the importance of having different coaches and specialty players for red and white-ball cricket as well as discussing player workload management. A difficult international schedule, he claimed, “makes a lot of sense” for larger teams like India, England, and Australia.

In order to minimize road fatigue from playing for extended periods of time, players try to specialize in one format of cricket due to how repetitive it has gotten and how much of it is currently available.

While Flower acknowledged that it would make sense for teams with larger talent pools, he continued by saying that specialization would also help players live easier.

“For some countries, it is not needed. For bigger countries that are playing tons of cricket players specializing makes sense. It would also make sense from a coaching point of view and a lifestyle and health point of view” Andy Flower told PTI on the sidelines of the Abu Dhabi T10 League.
