Wasim Jaffer, a former batter, praised Team India skipper Rohit Sharma for his outstanding performance against Bangladesh in the second One-Day International on December 7 despite suffering an injured thumb. Jaffer claims that few people would have anticipated Rohit returning to the field after suffering a catastrophic injury.

After Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat first, the Indian captain was hurt while fielding at slip. He harmed himself while trying to catch a low catch. Rohit didn’t start the inning and departed the field right away.

The right-hander eventually entered the game at No. 9 after the Men in Blue fell behind in their pursuit of 272 and were at 207/7. In his 28-ball 51*, Rohit produced a brilliant innings, smashing five sixes and three fours. India required six from the final ball. However, Mustafizur Rahman correctly called his yorker and gave Bangladesh the victory.

“India were just one shot away. No one expected Rohit Sharma to come in to bat. Everyone felt that it was a serious injury. Maybe he could have come in a bit earlier. The way he came in and batted, he found it difficult against the spinners. However, he managed to switch gears and played an absolutely brilliant innings.

“He needs to be praised. It happens sometimes when you are injured. Somehow, you find a way to perform. Hats off to Rohit Sharma.”

The final over had to yield 20 for the Men in Blue. Two fours and a six were smacked by Rohit. With the last-ball yorker, he was limited to little more than digging it out.

India Might As Well Have Opened With Washington Sundar: Wasim Jaffer

Virat Kohli led Team India’s opening inning because Rohit was hurt. Washington Sundar, in Jaffer’s opinion, might have been a better choice because Kohli could have batted at his usual position.

He declared that he was unconvinced by India’s altered batting order.

“I was surprised to see Sundar at No. 4. Shreyas came in at 3, Kohli opened. Everyone else moved, but KL Rahul was still at No. 5. India might as well have opened with Sundar. Kohli could have come in at his number, so would have Shreyas and KL. Would have made more sense.”

India’s chase got off to a bad start as they lost four wickets for a total of 65 runs. Sundar (11), Shikhar Dhawan (08), and Kohli (05), as well as KL Rahul (11), and Shikhar Dhawan (08), failed to have any significant influence.
