Rishabh Pant, team India’s wicket-keeper batsman and vice-captain for the New Zealand and Bangladesh tour, has been dropped from the ODI selection for the Bangladesh series.

Pant, who hasn’t been in great form in white-ball cricket recently, has been playing non-stop, and the team management has decided to rest him ahead of the Test series. In addition to Pant, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that all-rounder Axar Patel was unavailable for selection.

KL Rahul was also named as skipper of the side in the absence of Rohit Sharma earlier in the year as team India toured Zimbabwe.

Rahul has been assigned to bat at No. 5, as he has been when all of the key players have returned to the squad. Aside from the significant alteration in the batting order, the Men in Blue chose four all-rounders in Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed, Shardul Thakur, and Deepak Chahar.

Pant, a Test certainty for India, hasn’t been in great form in white-ball cricket in recent months, whether in T20Is or ODIs. Pant has looked like a shell of himself in colored apparel since his maiden ODI century against England in July. Pant scored 15 and 10 in the two games he batted against New Zealand in the current series.
