Hemang Badani, a former all-rounder for India, has praised under-fire wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, claiming that both supporters and opponents frequently forget to discern between T20I and ODI performance and portray Pant as a below-average hitter in the white-ball game.

Pant has been dropped from the India ODI team, which is currently playing a three-match series in Bangladesh. After a statement, the BCCI merely stated that the decision had been made “in consultation with the BCCI medical team” and that “no successor has been sought.”

Pant has performed reasonably well in ODIs, but the 25-year-old unquestionably needs to start over and reinvent his T20 abilities, according to Badani, who was speaking at a select media interaction hosted by Sony Sports Network, the official broadcasters of India’s tour of Bangladesh.

“My simple take on this is that he is a no-brainer in Tests let’s keep that aside. In T20s, yes, his numbers don’t respect the potential and the talent he has. Especially, what we expect of him,” Hemang Badani said.

“In the One-Day Internationals, he hasn’t done too terribly.” Yes, he underperformed in the New Zealand series. However, most of us end up bashing T20, and if a player does poorly in one format, we declare, “Oh, his numbers are horrible in the white ball format.”

“Pant has performed admirably in One-Day Internationals. He hit a century in the last ODI series he played, and this was 3-4 innings before the Bangladesh series. So, I don’t think he’s performed poorly in ODIs; he did struggle in New Zealand, but we end up lumping his T20I performances together,” Hemang Badani remarked on mykhel.com

“Rishabh Pant has the skills and talent”: Hemang Badani

Hemang Badani, a former all-rounder for India, has praised under-fire wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant.

“He has the talents and talent, but that isn’t enough. I truly believe he’s a fantastic T20 player, but his approach to his innings lacks organization. There’s no denying he’s a serious T20 player, but the way he’s approaching (his game) shows a significant gap between his potential, skills, and delivery,” Hemang Badani said.

“That, in my opinion, is something he should improve on. Even in a T20 format, you cannot hit all ten balls for a maximum. You must still exercise caution while deciding which ball to strike and which bowler to target. Rishabh needs to work on these things,” Hemang Badani Added.

Team India faced a disappointing defeat at the hands of Bangladesh in the first ODI of the three-match series in Dhaka.
