The left-hand injury suffered by India captain Rohit Sharma during the second ODI has virtually ended his participation in the remaining Bangladesh trip, including the two-test series.

After the team lost the second ODI in Dhaka, head coach Rahul Dravid announced that the opener will be “flying back home” to speak with specialists. Deepak Chahar and rookie pacer Kuldeep Sen have both been ruled out of the third ODI in Chattogram due to hamstring and back problems, respectively, according to Dravid.

Rohit Sharma To Fly Back To Mumbai And Consult An Expert

“It (thumb injury) isn’t too great. Some dislocation and some stitches. Fortunately, not a fracture and so, I was able to bat,” Rohit stated during the post-game presentation after making a brave 50 in a losing cause.

Coach Dravid acknowledged that he is uncertain as to whether Rohit would be able to participate in the Test series beginning in Chattogram on December 14.

“Rohit, Kuldeep and Deepak have been ruled out of the third match. Rohit will fly back to Mumbai and consult with an expert and see how it (injured finger) is. We are not in a position to say whether he will be able to play the Test series. It is too early as of now,” Dravid said.

But given that Rohit admitted to having a dislocated shoulder, it would be at least three to four weeks before he can resume hitting in the nets. When it comes to confirming injuries, Dravid is well renowned for using the cautious route.

At the second slip, Rohit dropped Anamul Haque off Mohammed Siraj on the fourth ball of the second over, leaving him with a bloodied hand. The team physio escorted him off the field.

He was taken urgently to a hospital in Dhaka for a scan, and the affected area needed numerous stitches during the initial care.

“India Captain Rohit Sharma suffered a blow to his thumb while fielding in the 2nd ODI. The BCCI Medical Team assessed him. He has now gone for scans,” the BCCI stated in a media release earlier in the day.
