India beat Bangladesh by 227 runs in the third and final ODI of the three-match series at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Saturday, December 10. Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria praised Ishan Kishan for scoring the fastest double-century in ODIs.
Batting first, India posted a mammoth total of 409/8 in 50 overs. Ishan Kishan, who came in for an injured Rohit Sharma, scored a stunning double-century of 210 runs off 131 balls, including 24 boundaries and 10 sixes. Virat Kohli scored 113 runs off 91 deliveries, his first ODI century since August 2019.
His Quality And Class Were On Display Today – Danish Kaneria
Danish Kaneria claimed on his YouTube channel that the left-hander showed why the Mumbai Indians (MI) spent Rs 15.25 crore on him ahead of the 2022 season. He believes Kishan will not be rested for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand in January and February.
“It was fabulous, tremendous, phenomenal innings. This is the reason why Mumbai Indians picked him for such a big price. His quality and class were on display today,” Kaneria said.
“Ishan Kishan has indicated to selectors and management that he won’t sit on the bench,” he added.
The next one-day series for Team India will be against Sri Lanka at home in January 2023. Sri Lanka will play three T20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals in India. The three T20Is will be held from January 3 to 7, while ODIs will be held from January 10 to 15.
Sanju Samson Can Also Score 200 – Danish Kaneria
Kaneria believes that another wicketkeeper-batsman, Sanju Samson, has the temperament and skills to score a double century in ODIs, but the team management must give him more opportunities.
“There is one more wicketkeeper batter who we want to see play consistently – Sanju Samson. He’s a player who can also score 200. He’s the temperament and skills. If you give opportunities to players, then only they will score runs.”
Samson was rested in the last two One-Day Internationals in New Zealand. The right-hander was dropped from the limited-overs squad for the ODI series against Bangladesh.
