The 23-year-old India National Cricket Team star opening batsman Shubman Gill scored his maiden Test century in the first Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh National Cricket Team at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Friday, December 16.
In the first innings of the match, the Punjab-born batter Shubman Gill got off to a good start but was unable to register a big score. He was the first one to fall in the first innings on Day 1 as Taijul Islam dismissed him for 20 on the second ball of the 14th over.

Meanwhile, in the second innings of the match, Kuldeep Yadav bagged a 5-wicket haul, Mohammed Siraj picked up 3 wickets while Axar Patel and Umesh Yadav bagged one wicket each to bowl out Bangladesh for 150 and India got a massive 254-run lead.
In the third innings of the match on Day 3, Shubman Gill had a great 70-run opening partnership with captain KL Rahul. Also, he stitched up a brilliant 113-run partnership with the veteran batter Cheteshwar Pujara.

Gill looked comfortable in the middle against the Bangladesh bowlers and was able to convert a good start into a good score. He completed his half-century off 84 balls and kept dominating the bowlers.
On the 5th ball of the 48th over, the 23-year-old opening batsman smashed a four to Mehidy Hasan Miraz to complete his maiden Test century off 147 balls. Notably, Gill had a scare on 70 when Yasir Ali pinged him on the pads. However, the DRS technology was down and Bangladesh were unable to take a review.
Overall, the young opening batsman amassed 110 runs off 152 balls, including 10 fours and 3 sixes, before being cleaned up by Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the 50th over.
Before today, the 23-year-old’s best Test score was 91, which came in a match-winning cause during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21 in the 4th innings of the Brisbane Test against Australia.
Meanwhile, Shubman Gill has become the 34th Indian opener to hit a Test century and only 6th Indian to hit a ton against Bangladesh in the purest format of the game as an opener after Gautam Gambhir, Wasim Jaffer, Dinesh Karthik, Shikhar Dhawan, Murali Vijay, and Mayank Agarwal.

Special special hundred from Shubman Gill, should be begining of bigger things.
Really happy for him but knowing how Indian cricket works, this 100 has delayed "Gill in the middle order project" by at least 10 matches.#BANvIND #CricketTwitter

Now imagine, Shubman Gill may have to sit out of the next Test after scoring this century, if and when Rohit Sharma returns.

1st Test 100 for Shubman Gill ! What a refreshing approach getting there with 2 boundaries (one a reverse sweep on 95)
This is what we call aggressive intent ! And only young blood can bring that hunger and approach.
9th First class 100 and many more to come.#BANvsIND #indvsban— shashank singh (@shashank_singh2) December 16, 2022
So happy for @ShubmanGill. He missed out on his maiden ? at Gabba, finally gets there today. He can be India’s next all-format great after Kohli. This decade can be Gill’s ???

Even after scoring a brilliant Hundred today, Shubman Gill will have to sit out in the next Test match so that Rohit and Rahul can open the innings.
You may like it or not but that's the current state of Indian Cricket.
