The 34-year-old India National Cricket Team Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara showcased a batting masterclass on Day 1 of the first Test of the two-match series against Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh National Cricket Team at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Wednesday, December 14.
India National Cricket Team won the toss and opted to bat first in the match. The KL Rahul & Co. fielded a combination of two pacers and three spinners and the Bangla Tigers also did the same thing.

Indian openers Shubman Gill and KL Rahul were off to a decent start in the match and India were at 41/0, but suddenly they were reduced to 48/3, with Shubman Gill, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli getting dismissed.
Taijul Islam dismissed Gill for 20 in the 14th over and Kohli for 1 in the 20th over. Also, Khaled Ahmed cleaned up Rahul for 22 in the 19th over.

After losing three wickets, Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant led India to recovery in their contrasting styles and at lunch, India were at 85/3 in 26 overs.
Pujara and Pant added 64 runs together in 73 balls with the latter being the aggressor. Pant scored 46 runs off 45 balls, including 6 fours and 2 sixes, before being cleaned up by Mehidy Hasan Miraz in 32nd over.
Cheteshwar Pujara, whose catch was dropped at the score of 12 by Nurul Hasan, didn’t look in complete control initially, but as the innings progressed he started looking brilliant out in the middle.
After a terrific partnership with Pant, Pujara also stitched up a remarkable century partnership with the middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer.
They added 149 runs in 317 balls before Taijul Islam bagged his third wicket of the match to break the partnership. He dismissed Cheteshwar Pujara, who scored 90 runs off 203 balls, including 11 fours.
The Bangladesh spinner pitched the delivery on the middle-and-off line and Pujara looked to defend while not expecting the ball to turn and the ball knocked over the stumps. Notably, Pujara has gone 51 innings without a Test century and during this period he has scored 14 half-centuries.

Pujara important 90 on a wicket that is getting more difficult to bat on as the day goes on. Genuine test innings. #BANvIND

Pujara got bowled in the very next over after bails didn't dislodge just to show that there was no foul play from BCCI when bail was changed.
True patriot.#BANvIND #CricketTwitter

Well played, Cheteshwar Pujara – 90 in 203 balls. Missed out on what could've been a Test century after 47 months and 51 innings. He richly deserved the ton today!
Top innings on the comeback by Pujara! pic.twitter.com/AOVNLjT2Qf

In the last 51 innings – Pujara has 14 fifties but no hundreds, he has fought numerous times for India still the hundred is staying away. pic.twitter.com/aUZektF8yo

Cheteshwar Pujara batted brilliantly but will have to wait for his hundred. It's a hard earned wicket for Taijul Islam, had bowled some absolute beauties throughout the day.#INDvsBangladesh #INDvsBAN #BANvsIND #SportsYaari

Won't be surprised if Pujara is averaging close to 50 again after the BGT. Definitely see him scoring truckloads of runs in the next 5 tests. #INDvBAN
— Anirudh (@OffDrive_) December 14, 2022
Because of pujara we Won 2 BGT . Respect the guy who has given his everything for your team when your team need him the most . 45 average around 7000 runs what you want more from your number 3 batsman ??

Did not get the runs as consistently as the team needed for a while and what is expected of him from his standards, gets dropped; scores truck loads of runs in county, makes a return and looked good in his comeback test and continues on that today. What a character Pujara❤️
— Rajdeep Singh (@cricrajdeep31) December 14, 2022
Chiteshwar Pujara is playing solid innings and is looking in great touch after a while on these kind of pitches. #INDvBAN
— Manavdeep Singh (@CricvocateManav) December 14, 2022
Can't believe people can still point out flaws in Pujara's style despite him arresting the early collapse and now batting fluently at 50 SR!??♂️ Just bizarre agenda.
Why do people forget that once he gets to 100, he can score pretty quickly too???♂️— Tanmay (@StanCric) December 14, 2022
Pujara cementing his spot only to fail in BGT?
— Goutham (@eduthuomgoutham) December 14, 2022
Pujara's Long Vigil of 203 balls Came to a sad End(#pujara missed well deserved ?) as He & Team India ran out of Luck at the End of Day's Play Coz Shreyas Iyer
Steal all the Luck himself getting dropped & Bowled without Bails

— DEBARATI (@DebAnu2002) December 14, 2022
Just how unlucky is Pujara. Gets out in the 90s again. Wow, just wow, and look, Iyer was also out but the bails didn't come off! WHY? WHY? Just feel for 'THE WALL 2.0'. Anyways, excellent innings, he will score a ton, and at that time every critic will be silence forever.

Is Cheteshwar Pujara's current streak of 51 innings without a Test century highest for a player who has at least 10 Test hundreds?#BANvIND #INDvBAN #CheteshwarPujara #TeamIndia
