India National Cricket Team stand-in captain KL Rahul was unable to play a big knock for his side in the first innings of the Chattogram Test against Bangladesh National Cricket Team on Day 1 on Wednesday, December 14.

The first Test of the two-match series between India and Bangladesh is being played at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

India National Cricket Team won the toss and opted to bat first in the match. They fielded a combination of two pacers – Mohammed Siraj and Umesh Yadav – and three spinners – Kuldeep Yadav, Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar – in the playing XI.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, fielded the same three spinners and two seamers combination and they handed the debut cap to Zakir Hasan, who was the highest run-getter in the recently concluded National Cricket League.

Rahul has an added responsibility on his shoulders in the first Test as he is leading the side in the absence of Rohit Sharma. The Indian captain Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the first Test due to a thumb injury he sustained during the second ODI against the Litton Das-led Bangla Tigers in Mirpur.

Meanwhile, Rahul scored just 22 runs off 54 balls, including 3 fours, before being cleaned up by the 30-year-old pacer Khaled Ahmed in the 19th over of the innings.

On the first ball of the 19th over, the Bangladesh pacer delivered a length ball just outside the off-stump and KL Rahul wanted to play it to the point region. However, he only managed to get a thick inside edge as the ball didn’t rise much and it knocked over the stumps.

KL Rahul was absolutely gutted after his dismissal and he punched his bat with the glove in anger as he walked off the field. Several fans were disappointed with Rahul’s failure in the innings and many slammed him for his “you are going to see a lot of aggressive cricket from our side” remark, which he made at a press conference ahead of the Test series opener.
