IND vs ENG: Entertaining But Also Very Smart - Michael Vaughan on Rishabh Pant

Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan praised Indian wicket-keeper batter, Rishabh Pant, following the latter’s stunning century in the third and final ODI against England at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Chasing a target of 260, India was in trouble at 72/4 with all their experienced batters back in the hut. Pant joined hands with Hardik Pandya to stitch a 133-run partnership which took them closer to the total.

While Hardik fell after making 72, Pant carried on and brought up his maiden ODI hundred. He finished the game off in style, reverse-sweeping Joe Root for a boundary to cap off a successful tour for the white-ball team.

What a cricketer Rishabh Pant is .. Incredibly entertaining but also very smart,” Vaughan tweeted.

“He is such a good player, you just want him to have that freedom” – Michael Vaughan

Vaughan had earlier said that Pant was overthinking at times and ended up being the reason for his demise. In the second ODI, he fell to a poor delivery but the youngster took his time this around before playing his shots.

And in white ball cricket, it looks like he is almost overthinking it. He is that one player in that space who can win India a game in a space of 15 overs of batting.”

He is such a good player, you just want him to have that freedom. Not to be worried about the shots that he is playing even he is getting out. His job according to me in this Indian team is to go for course – chaos,” Vaughan had earlier said.

India pockets both the T20I and ODI series by a 2-1 margin. Their next assignment is against the West Indies while England welcomes South Africa for a white-ball tour.
