Monty Panesar believes Virat Kohli is a guy who is struggling with his form, makes some good hits, and then leaves.

Kohli, who is currently struggling to live up to his high standards with the bat, last scored an international century in November 2019.

In whatever format over the past several years, Kohli has not been at his best. His test results are the worst they have ever been. In T20Is, he continues to average over 50, but his strike rate has plummeted. In IPL 2022, he had a 116 strike rate. To be fair to the modern-day great, during the England series he did make an effort to adjust to India’s new offensive style of cricket but ultimately failed.

In the second T20I, he was out for one while attempting to play a nasty heave to a Richard Gleeson delivery that was far outside the off-stump. In the series’ last game, he hit a pair of lovely lofted strokes against David Willey, but the very next ball was holed out at cover.

Kapil Dev questioned Kohli’s status in the T20 team, saying “You can not only go for reputation.” What are your thoughts on this?

“The question is excellent. Scouts can be uneasy around Virat because of his passion and ferocity, but they are not afraid of him when he plays against England, Australia, or New Zealand. His detractors believe he is nothing more than a cricketer flinging toys out of the cart. He has lost whatever he was like two or three years ago” Monty Panesar stated to TOI.

“He is currently a man who struggles with form, kicks well, but then walks away. The player has changed. He is always pictured by cricket fans throughout the world as “Oh yes, this is Virat Kohli, an intense cricketer with wonderful strokes” and similar phrases” Monty Panesar said.

“But he has not played cricket in that manner in a while. His defining quality is strength. All attention will be on him whether he scores runs or doesn’t. Currently, the Indian team needs him” TimesofIndia.com interviewed Monty Panesar.

Kohli missed the first One-Day International against England due to a groin injury. There is no word on the extent of his injury, but he is unlikely to play any more One-Day Internationals.
