Former India National Cricket Team opening batsman Wasim Jaffer, after India’s defeat in the Edgbaston Test against England, said that India should include Sarfaraz Khan in the Test team.

Young Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan was the highest run-getter in the Ranji Trophy 2022 as he scored 982 runs at an extraordinary average of 123.

Meanwhile, Jaffer said that the middle-order batsman Hanuma Vihari, who scored only 31 runs in the rescheduled Test against England, will find it difficult to retain his place in the team. He added that the opener Shubman Gill should be tried in the middle order and bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur should be backed after failure in rescheduled Test. Jaffer told ESPNcricinfo:

“It will definitely be difficult for Vihari because there’s Sarfaraz Khan in waiting who’s been in really good form in the Ranji Trophy and should be given an opportunity.

“Shubman Gill should be tried in the middle order. He’s an up-and-coming talent but perhaps the opening spot is just not for him. Apart from that, I don’t think Shardul Thakur should be dropped after just one match though.”

India National Cricket Team have been penalised for maintaining a slow over-rate in the fifth and final Test match of the series against England National Cricket Team at the Edgbaston, Birmingham.

India National Cricket Team, after facing 2 points penalty, have 52.08 World Test Championship percentage points and they have slipped down to the fourth spot in the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 standings, below Pakistan National Cricket Team, who have 52.38 percentage points.

India will play their remaining 6 Test games of the cycle in the subcontinent, including 2 in Bangladesh and 4 in India.

Meanwhile, Jaffer feels that it would be difficult for India to make it to the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 final. He said:

“Yes. It feels like it will be difficult because the results have been that way. India isn’t going to play a lot of Test matches either.”
