Former England National Cricket Team left-arm spinner Ashley Giles has shared his views on premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah being given the India National Cricket Team captaincy for the rescheduled Test match against England.
On Thursday, June 30 the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that the premier pacer Bumrah will be leading India in the one-off Test against England as all-format captain Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the Test match after failing to recover from Covid-19.

The Jasprit Bumrah-led India will lock horns with Ben Stokes-led England in the 5th and last Test match of the series at the Edgbaston, Birmingham and the match will commence on Friday, July 1.
Meanwhile, Giles has said that giving the captaincy to a potent strike bowler like Bumrah can create some confusion for the pacer.
“That’s the interesting point.. Giving the captaincy to your most potent bowler and your strike bowler. And we’ve seen in the past that this can cause some confusion just for the bowler and captain himself.
“When do they bowl themself, how much do they bowl? And that’s why we perhaps don’t see fast bowlers captaining international teams in test matches that much particularly in recent times,” Giles told ESPNCricinfo.
I think he’ll be fine as he will also have some great guys around him – Ashley Giles on Jasprit Bumrah

Former England cricketer further said that Bumrah will be fine as a skipper as he will have some great guys around him in the team.
“But clearly, the way India have used Bumrah as their vice-captain, they rate his leadership skills, they are trying to groom him in that responsibility so I think he’ll be fine as he will also have some great guys around him,” Giles added.
Meanwhile, Bumrah will become the first pacer to lead India in Test cricket since Kapil Dev, whose last game in charge was an ODI against England in 1987. Also, Bumrah will become the 36th player to lead India in Test cricket.
