India takes on England in the first T20I on July 7 in a bid to come back in the white-ball series. The white-ball series comprises three T20Is and three ODIs with Rohit Sharma back leading the side. Ths hosts had a remarkable win in the one-off Test chasing their highest fourth-innings total ever as Test cricket was redefined by Ben Stokes and co.

India lost the one-off Test against the hosts to go lower than Pakistan on the ICC WTC points table. The side will now aim to make a comeback in the white-ball games looking to build up towards the T20 World Cup. The side is being led by Rohit Sharma.

The BCCI picked two different squads for the three games. The squad that played against Ireland will be playing the first T20I. The other senior players within the squad will come back for the last two T20Is followed by the ODIs.

England, on the other hand, will be led by their new white-ball skipper Jos Buttler. He took over from Eoin Morgan after the latter announced his international retirement. England have been playing with an all-out attack mode in the last four Tets matches. Ben Stokes was very vocal about their new method of playing Test cricket.

Buttler and the entire England cricket team have been very vocal about the impact of Morgan on the side’s white-ball revolution. It will be interesting to see whether they continue to play in the same method in the post-Morgan era.

The first IND vs ENG T20I will start at 10.30 pm IST (6 pm local time). Rain played spoilsport in the first couple of days in the one-off Test. However, the weather at Southampton seems to be a better one for the first T20I. The temperature will remain between 15 to 20 degrees and the weather clear and dry in general.

Southampton has hosted nine T20Is so far with the average first innings score close to 170 and the second innings score close to 150. With power-hitters on both sides, we can expect a high-scoring contest. The pitch, given that it’s a T20I game, will favour the batters more than the bowlers.
