India vs England- IND Playing 11 vs ENG (Predicted)- India tour of England 2022, 1st T20I. India and England will face each other in the 1st T20I on 7th July 2022 at 10:30 pm IST in The Rose Bowl, Southampton. England has lost only one T20I series on their home soil after 2017 and it is against India in 2018. India has a 19-5 win-loss record in the T20Is played after 2021. India and England have an 8-8 win-loss record in bilateral T20I matches.

England won the rescheduled 5th Test match by 7 wickets and went on to level the series 2-2. Now, both teams will move to the T20I format, and the Test result will have very little bearing on this match as no player in the Test squad from either side is set to play this match.

Both teams are out there to test their bench strength and find the right balance in their squad ahead of the 2022 T20I World Cup later this year. India has been dominating the T20I circuit off late and England’s only nemesis in T20Is has been India on their home ground.

Rohit Sharma returns to the T20I squad after losing out on playing the Test match for being Covid-19 positive and is expected to partner alongside Ishan Kishan at the top. Deepak Hooda will keep his place at No.3 after his outstanding performances against Ireland with Suryakumar Yadav, Dinesh Karthik, and Hardik Pandya set to follow him. Sanju Samson might get a nod ahead of Ishan Kishan if India plans to test him as this is his only T20I match.

Deepak Hooda became the fourth centurion for India in the T20I format, after his breathtaking 104 off 57 balls against Ireland in the 2nd T20I between the two sides at Malahide on Tuesday, 28 June. Deepak Hooda scored 151 runs in two T20I matches against Ireland and was also awarded The Player of the Series.

Pacers Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are expected to slot in as the first choice playing XI in this match. Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh might get a chance if India plans to experiment with their line-up. Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravi Bishnoi will fight for the leggie’s role in the team with the former having an upper hand. Axar Patel might come in as a spin-bowling all-rounder.

For the first T20I match, senior players Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, and Ravindra Jadeja were not included as they were playing the rescheduled 5th Test match against England.  As the senior players were rested for the opening T20I, the likes of Sanju Samson, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rahul Tripathi, and Venkatesh Iyer will be available for only the first T20I match.

Rohit Sharma

India’s regular all-format skipper Rohit Sharma is already out of isolation (after missing the 5th Test due to Covid-19) and started his preparation for the white-ball series. He will kick start his England tour with the first T20I and will hope to get much-needed runs under his belt after a horrific IPL 2022 stint.

In the absence of KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma will get the company of his Mumbai Indians teammate Ishan Kishan at the top order as the pair is expected to start the proceedings for team India. He is the leading T20I run-scorer having amassed 3313 runs in 125 T20Is averaging 32.48.

Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan will open for the team in the 1st T20I against England. Ishan Kishan was very impressive in the last series against South Africa, smashing 206 runs in 5 innings at an average of 41.20 with 2 half-centuries. He was the highest run-getter in the series against Proteas.

Ishan Kishan scored an aggressive 26 runs off only 11 balls in the 1st T20I against Ireland which included 3 fours and 2 sixes. His opening partner Ruturaj Gaikwad didn’t bat for having a calf niggle in the 1st T20I as Deepak Hooda was promoted up the order. He scored only 3 runs off 5 balls in the 2nd T20I. He will open with Rohit Sharma.

Sanju Samson

So far, Sanju Samson has played one ODI and 14 T20Is for India scoring 46 and 251 runs respectively. Sanju Samson has been a consistent performer in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals over the last two seasons. The skipper led Rajasthan Royals to the final of IPL 2022, scoring 458 runs at a strike rate of close to 150.

Sanju Samson has struggled to replicate his IPL exploits at the international level as the Kerala batter, who made his debut in 2015, has managed 251 runs at a meagre average of 19.30 in 14 T20Is. Sanju Samson scored 77 runs off 42 balls including 9 fours and 4 sixes in the 2nd T20I against Ireland, scoring his first fifty for India in any format.

Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav might bat at the no.3 spot in the 1st T20I against England. The right-handed batter is back on the field after a long time after missing South Africa T20I series. He was part of IPL 2022 but was ruled out due to an injury midway. Suryakumar Yadav gave a good performance in IPL 2022, hitting 303 runs in just 8 games at an average of 43.29 with 3 half-centuries. He was out lbw for a first-ball duck to Craig Young in the 1st T20I against Ireland and scored 15 off 5 in the 2nd T20I.

Taking extra responsibility on the batting front at No. 3-4, Hardik Pandya topped the runs chart for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022 with 487 runs at an average of 44.27 with a strike rate of 131.26. He also filled in the fifth/sixth bowler’s capacity, taking 8 wickets with a healthy economy rate of 7.27 to dispel doubts around his bowling fitness. The right-arm seamer reserved his best for the last by delivering an impactful spell of 3 for 17 off his 4 overs in the IPL 2022 final.

Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik might be a lower-order batsman and the wicketkeeper for the team. In the absence of Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik will be a better option as a wicketkeeper for the team. The right-handed batsman slammed 92 runs in 4 innings in the previous series. Like Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik also scored quickfire runs in the death, batting at a strike rate of 158+.

Dinesh Karthik had taken IPL 2022 by storm with his incredible power-hitting skills in the slog overs. He scored 330 runs in 16 innings at a strike rate of 183.33 with one half-century averaging 55.  Dinesh Karthik made his India debut in 2004 and went on to play India’s first-ever T20I match. If all goes well, he will play the ICC T20I World Cup 2022 at the ripe age of 36/37. He scored an unbeaten 5 off 4 balls in the 1st T20I against Ireland but was dismissed for a first-ball duck in the 2nd T20I.

Deepak Hooda

For a stellar IPL 2022 season in which he scored 451 runs for new entrant Lucknow Super Giants, Hooda received high appreciation from the cricket fraternity. He contributed significantly to Lucknow’s run to the playoffs by scoring four half-centuries in 15 games. Deepak Hooda has played 2 ODIs and 5 T20Is averaging 55 and 86 respectively in the aforementioned formats respectively. He has also picked a solitary ODI scalp.

Deepak Hooda was promoted as an opener in the 1st T20I against Ireland and he scored an unbeaten 47 off 29 balls including 6 fours and 2 sixes. In the 2nd T20I, he scored a ton (104 off 57 with 9 fours and 6 sixes) and was also awarded The Player of the Series.

His X-factor was his economy rate, as he conceded runs at an economy of just 6.07. Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up the wicket of Andrew Balbrine and returned with match figures of 1/16 in 3 overs in the rain truncated 1st T20I. He picked 1/46 in the high-scoring 2nd T20I against Ireland, which India won by 4 runs.
