Cricket South Africa (CSA) is quite certain that India’s tour of South Africa will go ahead as planned despite the emergence of a new fast-spreading covid-19 variant in the African region.

The Netherlands team recently cancelled two of their three ODIs against South Africa because of the rapid growth of cases across the region. At the moment, India ‘A’ squad is also in South Africa playing three unofficial Tests. The senior squad will travel next month for a full-fledged tour.

Although there was a bit of uncertainty surrounding the tour, CSA acting chief executive Pholetsi Moseki is certain that the series will go ahead as planned.

“We spoke to the BCCI and they are very much committed to the tour,” Moseki was quoted as saying by thesouthafrican.com.

The CSA is making strict arrangements to ensure that the protocols that are put in place will be followed. Both BCCI and CSA are quite adamant about bio-bubbles, considering past experiences.

Our bio-bubbles are very strong because you need to remember the England one that ended up being a disaster,” Moseki said.

India A is still in the country and there isn’t a sign of them leaving. They’re still committed and they’re expecting the tour to go ahead. The tour is definitely still on and there’s no reason for it not to go on unless we’re blindsided by something we’re not expecting,” he further added.

Because of the virus, it is highly unlikely that the crowds will be allowed inside the venue. As for India’s travel, reports indicate that the team will take a charter flight from Mumbai to Johannesburg in what seems like a bubble-to-bubble transfer.
