IND vs SA: 3 Players from Vijay Hazare Trophy Who Can Make It into The ODI Squad. Indian Cricket Team has reached South Africa to participate in the upcoming three-match Test series, starting from 26th December 2021. The three Tests, however, will be followed by three ODIs. The squad for the ODIs, however, is yet to be announced.
Earlier, BCCI appointed Rohit Sharma as the new captain of India’s ODI team while announcing India’s squad for the Test series. He is now India’s new captain in both formats in white-ball cricket. India has not played an ODI series for a long time. A second-string Indian team visited Sri Lanka for an ODI series in July 2021. India hasn’t played an ODI since.
The squad for the ODI series against South Africa is likely to be announced soon. Rohit Sharma will lead the side, while KL Rahul has been made the new vice-captain in ODI format. Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021-22 is going on at present and the selectors would be following it closely.
The fans might see some of the top performers in the competition getting included in the squad for the ODI series against South Africa. Here’s a look at the top three players from Vijay Hazare Trophy who can make it into the ODI squad.
IND vs SA: 3 Players from Vijay Hazare Trophy Who Can Make It into The ODI Squad
Ruturaj Gaikwad

The highest scorer in the IPL 2021, Ruturaj Gaikwad has to be at the top of the list. The CSK opener has been in blistering form with the bat. Gaikwad has looked outstanding in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.
In 5 matches, he has hit 4 centuries, scoring 603 runs at a staggering average of 150.75. Manan Vohra is the second-highest run-scorer in the completion right now and is more than 200 runs behind Gaikwad.
Perhaps, it won’t be a wise decision if selectors miss out on Gaikwad in the ODIs, given the kind of form he is in. There are reports that he might replace Shikhar Dhawan in the squad as the latter hasn’t performed too well in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Venkatesh Iyer

Venkatesh Iyer has been making headlines since he made his debut for KKR in IPL 2021. Keeping in mind his all-round potential with both bat and ball, Iyer was included in India’s T20 squad for the series against New Zealand. And with Hardik Pandya still recovering from his injury, Venkatesh Iyer might make an ODI debut as well in the upcoming ODI series against South Africa.
Venkatesh Iyer played as an opener for KKR in IPL. However, the Indian Cricket Team has handed him the role of a finisher. He batted in the middle-order against New Zealand in the T20I series. Iyer is currently playing the same role for Madhya Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
In his second match against Kerala, Venkatesh Iyer scored a sensational century to guide his team to a 329-run total. He later picked three wickets with the ball as well. He is currently the fourth-highest run-scorer in the competition, having scored 349 runs in 5 matches at an average of 69.80.
Yuzvendra Chahal

The last time when India’s senior team played an ODI series, Yuzvendra Chahal didn’t play a single game out of three ODIs against England. Given how selectors have treated Yuzvendra Chahal in the last few months, it isn’t certain that he will be included in the ODI squad against South Africa.
However, his recent performances in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy would make it really difficult for them to leave him out of the squad. Chahal has been sensational in the ongoing Vijay Hazare tournament. In just 5 matches, he has picked 14 wickets at an impressive average of 15.00. He is currently the highest wicket-taker in the competition. Given the kind of form he is in, Chahal should be the first choice spinner for the ODIs against South Africa.
