IND vs SA: KL Rahul To Captain India In ODI Series If Rohit Sharma Fails To Recover In Time – Reports

Star opening batsman KL Rahul is most likely to lead the India National Cricket Team in the upcoming three-match One Day Internationals (ODI) series against South Africa if original white-ball captain Rohit Sharma fails to recover in time.

In the India tour of South Africa 2021-22, after the Test series, the teams will play a three-match One Day Internationals (ODI) series which will begin from January 19, 2022, at the Boland Park, Paarl. The second One Day Internationals will be played at Boland Park, Paarl on January 21, 2022, and the third and final One Day Internationals will be played on January 23, 2022, at the Newlands, Cape Town.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli was recently removed from white-ball captaincy and Rohit Sharma was appointed as the new captain of the Indian team in limited-overs cricket and he was also given the vice-captain’s role in Test cricket. However, he suffered a hamstring injury and was ruled out of the South Africa Test series and KL Rahul was named as the new Test vice-captain.

After missing the Test series Rohit Sharma was seen working on regaining fitness at the NCA and if reports are to be believed he is not fully fit and in his absence, Rahul will be leading the side in the ODI series against South Africa.

“Rohit Sharma is not fully fit, and it would not be feasible to send him to South Africa with the squad for the ODI series if he does not recover in time. In case of new ODI skipper’s absence, KL Rahul will be given the charge of captaincy,” a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) source told Sports Tak on Monday

Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravichandran Ashwin, Venkatesh Iyer To Be Included In ODI Squad

Senior opener Shikhar Dhawan who has lost his spot in T20I and Test side is expected to retain his place in the ODI team for the South Africa tour. Also, Vijay Hazare Trophy star performers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Venkatesh Iyer are expected to be included in the team.

Meanwhile, premier off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who recently made a comeback in the white-ball setup is expected to be part of the ODI squad and discussions on the inclusion of Tamil Nadu big-hitter Shahrukh Khan have also taken place.

“Selectors are likely to be meeting on January 30 or 31. It is also expected that Ashwin, Dhawan, Ruturaj and Iyer will be joining the team. No decision has been taken on Shahrukh Khan but the discussions have taken place,” a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) source told Sports Tak.
