IND vs SA ODI: 3 Indian Players For Whom This Could Be The Last ODI Series
3. Shikhar Dhawan
Shikhar Dhawan has been picked for the IND vs SA ODI series. The left-handed batsman last played an ODI series against Sri Lanka in July last year, where he led the team. There are two reasons why this series could be the last ODI series for Dhawan. To begin with, Dhawan is currently 36 years old and many youngsters are in queue to grab his place in the ODI squad.
Secondly, Dhawan only plays as an opener. There are many emerging openers in Indian cricket like Venkatesh Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan among others. Moreover, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma are the permanent openers for India across three formats. Hence, Shikhar Dhawan’s opening slot has a lot of competitors.

2. Ravichandran Ashwin
Ravichandran Ashwin is another player who might play his last ODI series during the IND vs SA ODI series. The right-arm spinner will turn 36 this year and faces a lot of competition from young spinners like Rahul Chahar, Varun Chakravarthy, Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal among others.
Ashwin got a call-up in the ODI squad due to the absence of all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who wasn’t available due to an injury. With Jadeja’s return, Ashwin will find it difficult to play as an all-rounder in the ODI squad. The off-spinner last played an ODI in June 2017, so he has already spent a lot of time out of the ODI team.

1. Yuzvendra Chahal
Yuzvendra Chahal is the third player on this list. Since last year, Yuzvendra Chahal’s presence on the national side has lessened to a great extent. He also couldn’t find a place in ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Chahal has a good international experience.
However, the leg spinner also faces tough competition from young emerging spinners like Varun Chakravarthy, Rahul Chahar, and Axar Patel. If Chahal fails to perform in the IND vs SA ODI series, selectors might hunt for another spinner to play for the ODI team in the future.
