Shikhar Dhawan has been picked for the IND vs SA ODI series. The left-handed batsman last played an ODI series against Sri Lanka in July last year, where he led the team. There are two reasons why this series could be the last ODI series for Dhawan. To begin with, Dhawan is currently 36 years old and many youngsters are in queue to grab his place in the ODI squad.

Secondly, Dhawan only plays as an opener. There are many emerging openers in Indian cricket like Venkatesh Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan among others.
