South Africa opener Quinton de Kock hit 124 runs from 130 balls as South Africa eked out India by four runs in the final ODI match in Newlands, Cape Town.
The South African wicketkeeper-batter broke numerous records during the course of his scintillating century against India.
Quinton de Kock breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s record, equals with AB de Villiers
De Kock smashed 12 fours and a couple of sixes to resurrect his side’s innings after Indian bowlers led by Deepak Chahar caused some early damage.
South Africa were 70 for three as De Kock aligned forces with Rassie van der Dussen. The duo combined for a top-notch stand of 144 before they were separated by Jasprit Bumrah.
Bumrah put brakes on De Kock’s classic knock as the player pulled one to Shikhar Dhawan at deep square leg.
It was De Kock’s sixth ODI century against India and he surpassed legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of most hundreds (5) in the India-South Africa ODI series.
Tendulkar made five of his 49 ODI centuries against the Proteas, De Kock has leveled with his former skipper AB de Villiers as both of them now have six centuries against India in the 50-over format.

Quinton de Kock surpassed Adam Gilchrist in most ODI hundreds by a wicketkeeper
De Kock registered his 17th ODI hundred of his career and went past Adam Gilchrist’s tally of 16 tons to become the second batter with most ODI hundreds as a wicketkeeper. Former Sri Lanka skipper Kumar Sangakkara topped the list with 23 ODI centuries to his name.
De Kock also broke former Indian opener Virender Sehwag’s record of scoring six hundreds against a single opponent in fewer innings.
The southpaw took 16 innings to score six hundreds against India while Sehwag made the same number of centuries against New Zealand in 23 innings.
De Kock joined the likes of Sangakkara and former Australia captain Ricky Ponting to score six hundreds against India. Sanath Jayasuriya still leads the charts with seven ODI hundreds against his Asian neighbours.
