India batting coach Vikram Rathour has backed Test skipper Virat Kohli amid the latter’s ongoing poor form. Rathour has opined that Virat Kohli should not stop playing the shot on which he got out in both the innings of the ongoing IND vs SA 1st Test. However, he wants Kohli to pick better deliveries to play that shot.

In recent times, Kohli has continuously become a victim of off-wide deliveries. In the ongoing IND vs SA 1st Test, the right-handed batsman lost his wicket in the same fashion. He tried to play a cover drive on deliveries wide outside off and was easily caught at the slips.

Virat Kohli Needs To Pick Better Balls For His Shots: Vikram Rathour

Speaking after Day 4 of IND vs SA 1st Test, India batting coach Vikram Rathour mentioned that Virat Kohli needs to pick better balls to play these shots. He also said that Kohli should not stop playing these shots as they bring him lots of runs.

“These are shots which brings him (Kohli) lots of runs and it’s his scoring shot. He needs to play that shot and I think it is always your strength that turns out to be your weakness as well. If you don’t play a certain shot, you will never get out playing that shot. You will never score runs as well. Now, when to play that shot, that’s the part there are constant discussions”, Vikran Rathour said.

“Was it right all and right stage to play that shot? If we can tighten up our game-plans a little more, that will be better. So that’s the shot he (Kohli) plays well and he needs to carry on playing that shot but he needs to pick better balls,” Rathour further said.
