India would be disappointed with their performance in the ODI series against South Africa. Be it batting or bowling, the Men in Blue didn’t live up to the expectations and thus lost both the first two games of the three-match series.

All the hopes of winning the ODI series have gone in vain. Ahead of the third and final ODI series, India would look to salvage some pride. Here’s a look at our predicted playing XI of the Indian Cricket Team for the third ODI

Shikhar Dhawan has shown great form in the series. There were speculations around his spot in the team prior to the start of the series. However, he has put all the criticism to rest to some degree. He is likely to open in the third ODI as well.

KL Rahul, being the captain of the side, should open for the third ODI as well. He hasn’t looked that great in the series. He was scratchy during his 79-ball 55 in the last game. The fans would hope that he plays a little more aggressively.

Middle-Order: Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav

Virat Kohli got out on a rare duck in the last one-day international. He faced only 4 deliveries and is certainly feeling the pressure in the middle. For India to win the match, Virat Kohli needs to find his rhythm back as soon as possible.

Rishabh Pant should continue to don the gloves for the third ODI as well. He was brutal with the bat in the last game as the southpaw scored 85 in 71 balls, a knock which was laced with 10 fours and 2 fours. With Shreyas Iyer not looking too great in the middle, team management might want to rest him for the final ODI and replace him with Suryakumar Yadav.

All-rounders: Venkatesh Iyer and Shardul Thakur

Venkatesh Iyer bowled five overs in the last game and also scored 22 off 33 deliveries. He hit one six during his knock and showed a glimpse of his all-round potential. He is certainly going to improve with more game time and India would look to play him the next ODI as well.

Shardul Thakur’s performance in both the ODIs has inspired a lot of confidence. He has to be the part of India’s playing XI for the third ODI as well.

Bowlers: Deepak Chahar, Ashwin, Chahal, and Bumrah

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has looked completely out of sorts in the series. He went for 67 runs in 8 overs without picking a wicket in the last one-day international. He should be replaced with Deepak Chahar in the next game.

Besides, Chahal and Ashwin too has failed to impress in both the games. The duo couldn’t pick wickets in the middle overs and allowed South Africa to stich a big partnerships.

India could replace Ashwin with Jayant Yadav but chances aren’t too high. Jasprit Bumrah, who was the only bright spot in the bowling department, should complete the playing XI.
