Former South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir has revealed that Indian bowling all-rounder and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) teammate, Shardul Thakur, is quite keen on attending the batting practice during the franchise’s training sessions.

Thakur has been the most impactful player in the second Test against South Africa. He picked up a stunning 7-wicket haul before following it up with an entertaining 28 in the third innings. He has also picked up one of the two wickets that have fallen in the fourth innings.

He takes a lot of pride in his batting. He takes his batting very seriously. I play with him for Chennai and he does a lot of batting practice. On one or two occasions, he got angry when he didn’t get enough batting in the nets.

It shows that he is very keen regarding his batting. He made very vital runs in yesterday’s game. They are very important runs. The way this match will progress, you will see the value of those runs and I believe the positive way in which he played, it is his natural game and he got the reward for that as well,” Tahir stated on Star Sports.

Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir was also thoroughly impressed with the way Thakur has performed, stating that the shots he played could lead anyone into thinking that he is a ‘proper batsman’.

Excellent contribution and because of that only Shardul Thakur is in the playing XI. If you bat at No.8, you will want to perform with both bat and ball. The shots he played were like a proper batter.”

First he took seven wickets and after that, important 28 runs. It was a very good over he bowled to Aiden Markram and he got the reward as well. So whatever performance he has given till now, it has been exceptional,” Gambhir mentioned.

Currently, South Africa is at 118/2 in their chase of 240 with four sessions remaining in the Test.
