India’s head coach Rahul Dravid has opened up on Shreyas Iyer’s poor batting show during the recent IND vs SA ODI series. Iyer, who played for the team in the middle-order in all three games, failed to come up with a big knock in every match.
Shreyas Iyer piled up just 54 runs in 3 ODIs against South Africa. The right-handed batsman scored 17 runs in IND vs SA 1st ODI, 11 in the 2nd game, and 26 in the final game. Notably, in all three games, Iyer had a nice opportunity to support the team with a good knock. Especially in the IND vs SA 3rd ODI, Iyer’s good knock could have put India on the winning side.

Shreyas Iyer Has Gone In Pretty Early In All Three Games And Had Enough Time: Rahul Dravid
While speaking to the press, India head coach Rahul Dravid said that Shreyas Iyer had enough time to bat in all three ODI games against South Africa.
“Whether you bat 4, 5, or 6, you have got to know what the team’s requirements are. Shreyas (Iyer) has gone in pretty early in all three games and he has had enough time (out there in the middle)”, Rahul Dravid said.
However, Dravid also backed Shreyas Iyer by saying that sometimes the players have good tours and sometimes not. He also added that management would like to back them as much as possible as they have done well in the past.
“We know guys have done well and we would like to back them as much as possible. Sometimes they would have good tours and sometimes, it won’t be possible, that’s just the way it is. Obviously, there tends to be a lot of competition, people pushing for places and it’s not easy in that kind of a situation”, Dravid further said.
India faced a miserable loss against South Africa in the ODI series. The Indian team lost all the three ODI games, facing a whitewash in the series 3-0. While top-order batsmen like Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli managed to give a good start to the team, it was the middle-order that completely failed to follow up their batting.
India will now face West Indies in an ODI and a T20I series at home. The West Indies tour of India is slated to commence on February 6. During the tour, India and West Indies will play a total of 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is.
