Rishabh Pant notched up his fourth Test ton, his first against South Africa on day 3 of the Cape Town Test. He batted with intent alongside Virat Kohli and since his dismissal has farmed the strike alongside the tail-enders. He ended unbeaten on 100 as India were bowled out for 198 in the second innings. South Africa now need 211 runs to win the third Test and the series.

Rishabh Pant has played controlled but aggressive cricket on a pitch that has become difficult for batting. India lost the wickets of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane early on in the day. Since then it was Kohli and Pant who did the repair job for India.

Pant added 94-runs with Kohli for the fifth wicket. Just when it looked like India were coming back in this Test match, Kohli lost his wicket to yet another ball which forced him to drive outside off stump. The Indian score was 152 when Kohli was dismissed and the remaining batsmen added just 46 runs with Pant remaining unbeaten on exactly 100.

At a young age of just 24, Rishabh Pant now has Test hundreds against Australia, England and now South Africa. He also has scored three of his four Test tons in overseas conditions. The young wicket-keeper batsman was slammed by cricket experts for throwing his wicket away in the second innings of the Johannesburg Test match. However, in this innings, he batted with responsibility ensuring that he had a much-needed partnership for Team India with his skipper.

The Indian bowlers now have their task cut out to defend 211 that South Africa need to win the third Test and the series. The onus will be on Jasprit Bumrah to replicate his first innings perfirmance. He took 5/42 in the first innings. Another similar effort from India’s premier pacer can well see India win the Test match and create history.
