Twitter Reacts As Deepak Chahar Plays An Outstanding Innings In The Cape Town ODI vs South Africa

Indian bowling all-rounder Deepak Chahar played an outstanding knock in the third and final ODI of the three-match One Day International series against Temba Bavuma-led South Africa National Cricket Team, on Sunday, January 23.

KL Rahul won the toss and invited the Proteas team to bat first. South Africa lost two wickets of opener Janneman Malan and skipper Temba Bavuma in the powerplay itself. However, Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen provided the stability to the innings by adding 144 runs together and South Africa scored 287 runs in the innings.

Chasing the target, captain KL Rahul was dismissed in the first ball of the 5th over by Lungi Ngidi and he scored just 9 runs.

Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan had an amazing 98-run partnership off 110 balls before the latter was dismissed by Andile Phehlukwayo in the 23rd over and Dhawan managed to score 61 runs off 73 balls. Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant was also dismissed in the same over by Phehlukwayo on duck.

After that, India lost the wicket of Virat Kohli, who scored 65 runs off 84 balls in the 32nd over. Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav also got out in the 38th and 40th over respectively.

It looked like India will once again lose the match one-sided, but Deepak Chahar, who had picked two wickets in the first innings, came in as a saviour and played an extraordinary knock with the bat.

Deepak Chahar, who was playing his first match of the series, came out to bat after Shreyas Iyer’s dismissal and he added 15 runs with Suryakumar Yadav and 13 runs with Jayant Yadav. His biggest partnership came with Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah, which was of 55 runs off just 31 balls.

Deepak Chahar was dismissed by Lungi Ngidi in the first ball of the 48th over. He batted alongside the tailenders and scored 54 runs off just 34 balls including 5 fours and 2 sixes at a strike rate of 158.82.

However, after he got out the tailenders were unable to survive for long and India lost the match by 4 runs, to lose the One Day International series by 0-3.
