Shikhar Dhawan on his return to the Indian ODI squad scored an impressive 79. He looked set to get to yet another hundred when Keshav Maharaj dismissed him in the 26th over of the Indian innings. Before getting dismissed, he added a 92-run stand with Kohli to keep India in the game.
Shikhar Dhawan opened the batting with KL Rahul as the latter was dismissed cheaply. The southpaw went through his job relatively easy playing the pacers and the spinners with much ease. While he looked set, a ball from Maharaj took sharp turn pitching outside the off-stump and Dhawan while trying to cut the delivery inside-edged onto his stumps. The left-handed batsman looked in no trouble whatsoever as he was continuing his innings, prior to the delivery that dismissed him.

Soon after Dhawan’s dismissal, Virat Kohli was also dismissed for 51 by Tabraiz Shamzi. It was a soft dismissal as he tried to sweep the ball only succeeding in toe-edging the ball straight to Bavuma’s hands. He stood there in utter disbelief for a moment before returning back to the pavilion.
Meanwhile, South Africa batting first scored a competitive 296/4 with Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen scoring hundreds. While Bavuma scored 110 Dussen was unbeaten on 129. Both of them added a 204-run stand for the fourth wicket.
