Star West Indies National Cricket Team all-rounder Jason Holder has been infected with Covid-19 and he will most likely miss the entire three-match ODI series against the India National Cricket Team.

The first match of the three-match ODI series between the India National Cricket Team and West Indies National Cricket Team is being played at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad on Friday, July 22.

At the toss, West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran revealed that the star all-rounder Jason Holder has contracted the Covid-19 virus.

“Unfortunately Jason [Holder] has Covid so he misses out. It’s pretty much the same guys who played in the series against Bangladesh,” Nicholas Pooran said.

“There’s the weather around and there will be help for the bowlers early on, hopefully, we will make use of it. It’s a nice feeling, better feeling to win the toss, very happy to be here in front of my home ground.”

“We spoke about it, batting in partnerships, gaining momentum, it’s been tough for us, but we are up for the challenge. Every game we will try to improve,” he further said.

The next two games of the series will be played at the same venue on July 24 and July 27 and Holder will most likely miss out on those games as well.

Jason Holder is regarded as one of the leading all-rounders in world cricket and his absence comes as a major blow to the West Indies National Cricket Team.

He was rested for the Test, T20I and ODI series against Bangladesh to manage his workload and West Indies coach Phillip Simmons was excited to see Holder come back to the side for the India ODIs.

“It’s good to have him back,” Simmons had said in a virtual press conference. “He (Holder) looks fresh; bowling well the last two days and batted well too.”
