IND vs WI: Match Preview – India Tour of West Indies 2022, 1st ODI

India after defeating in a T20I and ODI series will now travel to the Caribbean for a full-fledged series. The series kicks off with the first ODI on Friday, 22 at Port of Spain Trinidad. The IND vs WI series will witness 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is. All the matches will be played in West Indies. All the ODI games will start at 7 PM IST, 9:30 AM local time. All the T20I games will commence at 8 PM IST, 10:30 AM local time.

India and West Indies last played a T20I and ODI series earlier in February this year. India managed to defeat West Indies in all three ODIs and three T20Is, winning both the series 3-0. Now, West Indies have a chance to avenge their defeat on home soil.

India are heading into this series after beating England in the T20I and ODI series. They lost the one-off Test in Edgbaston though. Windies, on the other hand, won the T20I series 2-0 but were whitewashed in the ODI series against Bangladesh 3-0.

India have rested senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and others for the ODI series. Shikhar Dhawan will led the Indian side which is full of T20I specialists. Dhawan will be India’s sixth captain this year since Virat Kohli led India in the first Test against South Africa. All the selected players have a chance to perform and stay in the reckoning for the T20 World Cup later this year and the 50-over World Cup in 2023.

West Indies were whitewashed in the ODI series by Bangladesh after they won the ODI series. They need to improve on their One-day game and Test matches as well. The players currently playing are more accustomed to T20 cricket playing the format regularly both internationally and in franchise cricket.

Skipper Nicholas Pooran was repeatedly speaking about how their underperforming batting performances cost them the matches against Bangladesh. Windies have recalled Jason Holder for the ODI series against India. He was one of the names who was rested in the previous series.
