IND vs WI: Shubman Gill's Run Out Was Too Casual, He Has To Be Aware Of The Situation - Ajit Agarkar
Former Indian bowler Ajit Agarkar was disappointed with the way Indian batter, Shubman Gill, conceded his wicket in the first ODI against the West Indies on Friday.
Gill was looking excellent on a good batting surface in Trinidad. Alongside Shikhar Dhawan, he had put up 119 runs on the board for the first wicket. However, his 53-ball 64-run knock came to an end of his own doing.
Gill called for a single and ran casually, not expecting Windies skipper, Nicholas Pooran, to pick up the ball quickly and fire a direct hit at the bowler’s end.
“He looked a little casual (while running). He took (it) a little bit easier today. And that (the run out) is the one thing you don’t want to do. Shikhar Dhawan is probably going to teach him today.”
“Once you get a start, don’t be casual and give it away. That run-out, that is too casual. You have to be aware of the situation, and be intelligent. But he will learn it as time goes,” Agarkar said during his commentary stint on FanCode.
“Disappointed to get run out but it’s been a good experience” – Shubman Gill
Gill’s knock included 6 fours and 2 sixes and more importantly, he scored at a great pace. By the time he was dismissed, India had the perfect start and they ended with 308 on the board in 50 overs.
“Was a good wicket to bat on and I enjoyed batting on it, obviously disappointed to get run out but it’s been a good experience. We posted a good total and hopefully, we will be on the winning side.”
“The wicket is pretty good, the ball started to grip after 20-25 overs for the spinners and spin is going to be crucial for us as well,” Gill had said during the break after the first innings.
India won the first ODI by 3 runs despite a late blitz from Romario Shepherd and Akeal Hosein. The second ODI will be played on July 24, Sunday.
