India and West Indies face off in the first ODI in Trinidad on July 22 which kickstarts a full-fledged series between the two teams. The series consists of three ODIs and as many as five T20Is. The ODI series is not part of the ICC ODI Super League.
India and West Indies last played a T20I and ODI series earlier in February this year. India managed to defeat West Indies in all three ODIs and three T20Is, winning both the series 3-0. The Windies will be eyeing revenge against the Indian team in home conditions now.
CWI has included veteran all-rounder Jason Holder in the ODI squad for the ODI series. He missed the T20I and ODI series against Bangladesh. The Windies won the T20I series against Bangladesh but lost out on the ODI series. This is the toughest format for the players who are a part of the current squad.
“As we all know Jason is one of the leading all-round cricketers in the world and we’re happy to have him back in the team. He will be refreshed, re-energized and ready to go and we can expect to see his brilliance on the field as well as meaningful contributions off the field as well,” West Indies chief selector Desmond Haynes said. Meanwhile, in this article, we take a look at West Indies’ predicted playing XI for the first ODI against India.
IND vs WI: West Indies’ Predicted Playing XI Against India, 1st ODI
Shai Hope
Hope plays ODI cricket regularly for West Indies. He is also their best batsman in the format for the side scoring tons of runs in recent times. He will open the batting in the first ODI.
Shamarh Brooks
Brooks has been retained for the ODI series against India after the ODI series against Bangladesh. He did not perform as per expectations against Bangladesh and now has his chance to play well against India.
Brandon King
King will open the innings alongside Brooks in the first ODI. He is one of the most talented batters of the West Indies in their modern era of cricket. He needs to translate his potential into performance.
Nicholas Pooran
Porran, the skipper can bat at number four. He had a poor outing in the ODI series against Bangladesh and would like to ake up for it against India.

Powell will slot in at number five. He rose to prominence in the T20I series against India earlier this year and now has to prove his potential as an ODI cricketer. Powell had a forgetful series against Bangladesh and would want to make up for it against India.
Jason Holder
Holder will slot in at number six. The trio of Pooran, Powell and Holder makes the Windies’ middle-order stronger than their top-order. He will also need to contribute with the ball.
Keemo Paul
Paul can slot in at number seven as another specialist all-rounder. Paul will need to improve on his game throughout the series against India.
Jayden Seales
Seals can be one of the two pacers in the playing XI. He was also a part of the squad that played the ODI series against Bangladesh but he did not get many opportunities.
Alzarri Joseph
Akeal Hosein
Hosein will be the specialist spinner in the playing XI. He has been preferred to Hayden Walsh in ODIs while both of them play together in T20Is.
Gudakesh Motie
Motie concludes West Indies’ predicted playing XI for the first ODI against India. He is a bowling all-rounder having played three ODIs and one T20I so far in his career.
