India had begun their three-match One-Day International series against Zimbabwe with a bang, winning the first game by ten wickets.

This was the Men in Blue’s 13th consecutive victory over Zimbabwe, and it was a convincing one.

After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, India was all over the hosts at the Harare Sports Club, bowling them out for 189.

Deepak Chahar was the star of the show with the ball, making his return to international cricket after a lengthy injury layoff. Chahar finished with figures of 3-27 and was named Man of the Match for his efforts.

It Is Difficult For A Fast Bowler To Comeback From An Injury: Saba Karim

Deepak Chahar, on the other hand, was left out of the playing XI for the second ODI, much to everyone’s surprise. Saba Karim, a former Indian wicketkeeper and selector, was also taken aback by the decision.

“Difficult to understand that actually. Unless it is on the advice of the support staff to manage the workload and keep him fresh, to make sure there’s not much pressure on his body. It is difficult for a fast bowler to come back from an injury and play regular matches,” said Karim in interaction with Sony Sports.

But more importantly, I was expecting Avesh Khan to replace Deepak Chahar and not Shardul Thakur. Avesh Khan is in your Asia Cup squad, so it would have been ideal for him to get more game time. More so if you are looking to draft him in the ODI setup. The selectors have so far been looking at him more as a T20I option,” Karim added.

However, India won the second game against Zimbabwe by five wickets, giving them an unassailable 2-0 series lead with one game remaining.
