KL Rahul Declared Fit To Play ODI Series vs Zimbabwe, Named Captain For The 3-Match Series

Indian opener KL Rahul will be returning to the team after a lengthy layoff in the 3-match ODI series against Zimbabwe which will begin on August 18.

He underwent surgery after the IPL 2022 season and was recovering during the home series against South Africa. Ahead of the tour of the West Indies, Rahul contracted covid-19 and was ruled out.

The Karnataka batter will finally don the blue jersey once for the ODI series against Zimbabwe. Rahul will also lead the side while Shikhar Dhawan will act as his deputy.

“The BCCI Medical Team has assessed KL Rahul and cleared him to play in the upcoming three-match ODI series in Zimbabwe. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has appointed him the captain of the side and named Shikhar Dhawan as his deputy,” the statement from BCCI read.

Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja have been rested for the tour. The likes of Deepak Hooda and Rahul Tripathi get a chance to showcase their skills on the biggest stage.

Deepak Chahar also returns to the side after being ruled out just weeks away from the IPL 2022 season. He is likely to partner with the likes of Avesh Khan and Prasidh Krishna in the pace attack.
