Sunrisers Hyderabad had a disappointing IPL 2022 season, failing to reach the playoffs amidst will be on a five-match unbeaten run at one point. The Orange Army began their season with back-to-back losses under Kane Williamson’s leadership.
They recovered well, however, and won five matches in a row. SRH then lost steam and failed to complete in the Top 4. Skipper Kane Williamson’s batting efficiency disappointed fans, but team management might indeed keep him because he did well as a skipper and had an injury issue before the season. Meanwhile, following their disappointing performance, the following five players may be released:
1. Sean Abbott:
In the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League, he was purchased by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in February 2022. Sean Abbott, an Australian fast bowler, failed to make an impression on his SRH debut. Abbott appeared in one game during the season, conceding 47 runs at an economy rate of nearly 12. Because SRH has a good pace attack, they can probably release Abbott.
2. Romario Shepherd:
In the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League, he was purchased by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in February 2022. Hyderabad brought up many eyebrows when they went all out for Romario Shepherd at the mega auction and signed him for 7.75 crores. Shepherd appeared in three games for SRH, taking three wickets at an economy rate of 10.88. By releasing Shepherd, SRH can increase its purse value.
3. Abdul Samad:
The Sunrisers Hyderabad have signed him for the 2020 Indian Premier League. On September 29, 2020, he managed to make his IPL debut against the Delhi Capitals. In the IPL 2022 auction, he was retained by the franchise. It was remarkable to see SRH sign Abdul Samad for 4 crores only to bench him for 12 games this season. Samad does have the potential to be a big star, but he deserves more attention. It will be fascinating to see if Hyderabad decides to keep him.
4. Fazalhaq Farooqi:
Fazalhaq Farooqi is a cricketer from Afghanistan. In the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League, he was purchased by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in February 2022. SRH has a strong pace attack with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umran Malik, Kartik Tyagi, and T Natarajan. They can release their overseas bowler and consider reinforcing the spin unit at the next auction by trying to sign someone like Adam Zampa, Tabraiz Shamsi, or Adil Rashid.
5. Glenn Phillips:
In February 2022, he was bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League tournament. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) did not use Glenn Phillips once during the Tata IPL 2022 season. Due to Covid concerns, the Kiwi middle-order batsman was unavailable for the first few games of the tourney. Notably, Phillips has previously played three IPL matches for the Rajasthan Royals, scoring just 20 runs at a dismal average of 13.
