Indian batter Ajinkya Rahane bagged an IPL contract with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as he was bought for INR 1 crore, which was his base price, in the IPL 2022 mega auction.

KKR made the initial bid for Rahane and there was no opposition from the other franchises, ensuring that he will now join the Kolkata team for the next season.

Rahane has gone out of favor with the Indian white-ball squad but he remains a potential option in the IPL due to the ability to anchor an innings as well as make the most of the powerplay.

He was previously part of the Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals. Apart from Rahane, KKR had shelled out a huge amount for Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana on Day 1. While Iyer commanded INR 12.25 cr, Rana was bought for INR 8 cr.
